During the 45-minute session, we explored the history, traditions, legends, and cultural meaning behind this beautiful autumn celebration. We talked about the famous legend of Chang’e and the Moon, learned why the Moon has such a special place in Chinese culture, and discovered how 中秋节 is celebrated in China today.
Of course, no Mid-Autumn Festival conversation would be complete without 月饼 (yuèbǐng)! 🥮 We explored different mooncake flavors and learned some useful Chinese vocabulary, including 流心 (liúxīn) — the delicious “molten” or “flowing” filling found in some modern mooncakes.
Along the way, participants learned new Chinese words and expressions connected with the Moon, family, food, and traditional celebrations.
It was a warm and cozy evening filled with Chinese stories, language, culture, and a little taste of autumn in China 🍂🌕🫖
Thank you to everyone who joined us!
